EARTHLY BODIES

ON DISPLAY UNTIL JANUARY 29

Earthly Bodies is an exhibition that brings together the work of Phoebe Millar and Emma Santos in an overlap of motifs surrounding nature and human form. Nature is often personified as a woman through the archetype of ‘Mother Nature’. There are fundamental links between the oppression of women and nature, and this is the Earthly Bodies Exhibitions' central concept.

Millars' work creates discussions around hyper-sexuality culture and questions whether the exposure of the body is productive in relation to feminist ideals. She explores both the discomfort and empowerment of battling societal standards, and turns to natural imagery to do so.

Meanwhile, Santos looks to expand the understanding of both women and nature past their archetypal portrayals in her colourful, immersive paintings. She is interested in the relationship between humans and non-humans, often creating hybrid creatures in her work.
