Here & Where

ON DISPLAY UNTIL March 26

Mathilde Lebreton ‘The paintings are a journey through imaginative surfaces and shapes that are naturally stored in our mind. Disappearing through spaces, confused time and empty spaces where the natural is trapped, becoming memories, insubstantial and ethereal. Spaces that, in truth, offer no real protection to anyone and remind us of the fragility of living. The texture and sombre colours explore this interrelation, transition, showing the wounds of a quest for safe and familiar spaces.’

Tanaka Mazivanhanga ‘Preserving memories of spaces and surfaces that one day may be lost. The work documents the surfaces, textures, marks and fragments of overlooked and forgotten relics of the urban landscape. Drawing out the details of the mundane and the everyday; to bring to the observer details and aspects they would not have previously acknowledged due to an automated familiarity. The curiosity urge to slowdown from the everyday lives, in order to think about things they otherwise do not engage with or think about their familiar in a new way.‘
